Commercial Flooring

Stonhard is an industrial manufacturer and installer operating throughout Canada and global markets. Our resin flooring systems contain unique blends of Epoxy, Urethane, and MMA engineered to provide industry-specific benefits in a multitude of applications.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR COMMERCIAL FLOORING SYSTEM
Commercial Flooring Requirements

Different industries require very different flooring systems. To begin the decision process, it is helpful to start each resin flooring application in one of two categories: Industrial and Commercial. In an industrial setting, performance will be the number one focus of the flooring system. In commercial flooring aesthetics and high foot traffic may be higher priorities. Primary considerations in a commercial setting include:

  • SLIP RESISTANCE
Stonhard floors come in a variety of finishes and textures specifically designed to reduce slippage on the flooring surface. In facilities where liquids or other materials may come in contact with the floor creating hazardous conditions, textured, slip-resistant floors reduce the risk of potential injury. Stonhard will recommend and design a slip-resistant floor with the performance you need plus the design aesthetic you want.

  • WATERPROOF
Some areas of a commercial environment require a waterproof membrane to protect areas below water sources. Preventing the absorption of water into concrete (whether interior or exterior) prevents breakdown of the concrete and increases its longevity. So, whether its a mechanical room in your building or the parking deck outside, any Stonhard flooring system can be made waterproof with a Stonhard waterproof membrane.

  • STAIN RESISTANCE
Stain-Resistant floors and walls are formulated to withstand permanent discoloration that occurs when their surfaces come into contact with liquids or materials. All of Stonhard’s floors and walls are formulated to be stain resistant making clean up easy and fast for staff. Unsightly stains can affect how your environment is viewed by customers, visitors, and those who work in the environment every day. Installing our products now will save you money and time on the replacement or repair of stained surfaces in the future.

  • SOUND ABSORBING
Some floors amplify even small sounds, creating distraction and an unappealing acoustical environment. Acoustics are a serious part of your overall design as noise can negatively affect patients in hospitals, students in classrooms, employees in offices, and customers in your retail space, hotel, restaurant, museum, or commercial space. Stonhard has floors to positively influence acoustics and provide comfort underfoot while offering durability and easy maintenance among other benefits.

  • EASY TO CLEAN
All Stonhard floors are easy-to-clean because they are poured-in-place and provide a seamless surface where dirt and bacteria do not spaces to harbor. This is critical for areas like hospitals, commercial kitchens, and schools which require thorough cleaning to keep facilities free of bacteria to meet infection control standards.

  • ERGONOMIC
Ergonomics is the art of designing elements that are comfortable for the human body. Resilient floors, which offer flexibility underfoot, provide more comfort and reduce standing-related ailments and fatigue. In industries such as healthcare, retail and manufacturing, where employees are standing throughout much of the day, Stonhard’s resilient seamless flooring remains easy to maintain and durable without sacrificing positive ergonomic conditions allowing employees to perform at optimal levels.

  • WEAR RESISTANCE
Wear-resistant flooring will hold up better when exposed to heavy foot and equipment traffic extending the life of your flooring material. Commercial spaces like hallways, cafeterias and retail stores need to withstand heavy traffic and routine cleaning while remaining attractive and free of scuffs and scratches. Stonhard’s epoxy, urethane and MMA flooring is tested for wear resistance using American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) approved methods so you can be confident they will provide cost-effective, year-after-year performance.

  • SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainable ("green" or "eco-friendly") floors utilize sustainable and/or recycled materials. A floor may also be considered eco-friendly if the disposal of the material upon replacement does not have a negative impact on the environment. Stonhard’s poured-in-place, seamless floors become a permanent part of the building’s structure and will not add to landfill waste. Some of our product formulations incorporate recycled glass and plant-based resins allowing businesses to qualify to LEED credits and our innovative packaging prevents over 4.8 million pails and cans from being dumped into landfills annually.

Our Installation Process

Our Process:

Stonhard is a turnkey manufacturer and installer of commercial and industrial epoxy floor systems, and we know that details are important for a successful epoxy floor installation.

Inspection and Testing

When we install a floor, we inspect the area prior to installation to determine the right system required for the area. Next, we perform additional tests based the condition of slab, use of space, age of the building, and more. These tests may include Calcium Chloride or Relative Humidity testing to determine the moisture content of the slab, analysis for contamination, and bond testing.

Substrate Preparation

Based on the information found from these tests and onsite visits, the area is prepared using media blasting, diamond grinding, jack hammers and chipping guns. If slabs are determined to be contaminated with oils, de-greasing may also be necessary to achieve proper adhesion. Preparation is the most important process to ensure there is a proper bond to the substrate.

Application

Installation of the system will vary depending on the specific system (broadcast, mortar, self leveler). The common installation procedures vary from screeding and troweling the material, squeegeeing and rolling the material, and broadcasting the material. All details, including waterproofing, cove base, penetrations, drains, etc., are discussed prior to installation. These will be handled properly to ensure a good quality epoxy floor installation with professionally trained installation teams.
